Introducing original landscape paintings by Sam D'Ambruoso. These oil paintings, inspired by New England and Italian landscapes, have been completed in the plein air (outdoor) tradition. Commissioned studio works are also available upon request. Working as a post-impressionist realist, his painterly approach to the landscape and still life draws the viewer into an environment rich in color and composition.
As he has explained in recent classes and workshops: "I'm continually searching for the play of darks against lights, expressed in vivid colors all in a painterly style. From florals to portraits, the light becomes the drama, the feeling, the truth, which engages the viewer."
This oil painting is the Villa Rufolo located in Ravello, a town close to Amalfi Italy. The Villa, whose original construction dates from 1200AD, belonged to the powerful Rufolo family. Its ancient function was that of a watch tower with its spectacular view of the Gulf of Salerno and the Amalfi Coast. The grounds and gardens were loved by Wagner which help give rise to his greatest musical accomplishments.
The painting began at our Amalfi workshop which takes place every year at the end of June. It was early morning and I wanted to capture the sunlight as it has graced this building for hundreds of years. I will be in front of it again this June, with another painting class, that will once again be enchanted by this incredible scene.
The painting measures 18" X 24" and is an oil on canvas. Price with custom framing is $2,500, plus sales tax, shipping, and insurance.
Yellow Barns of Middlebury
These barns were painted during this past summer as part of our early Sunday morning painting classes. They have been a favorite subject matter for many years and from different viewing points. In this painting, the early morning sun was the dominant driving force enabling me to work on this favorite place to paint. The painting size is 18" x 24", oil on canvas. Price: $2500, includes shipping, handling, and insurance. CT sales tax additional.
This river is very important to me as a trout fishery. For those that know me, I've been an avid fly fisher on the Housatonic for well over 50 years. The original painting is 20" x 24", oil on canvas. Price: $2,500
